Open up Creatures of Old.
Tell your grown up what has happened in the book so far. Can you summarise the first two pages in less than 30 seconds?
Read pages 3 – 7.
Answer the questions in your Home Learning book.
- Write down three animals that were on Earth in the time when there were no humans or dogs or birds.
- Turn to page 5. How does the author describe the plants that lived a long, long time ago?
- What is palaeontology?
- Write down two of the clues that palaeontologists may use to find out about ancient animals.
- Turn to page 7. Teach your grown up the process that turns creatures into fossils. Either write down the process or draw each step using pictures.
- Read the short extract below:
“Plant and animal remains preserved as imprints in this rock are called fossils”
What do you think the word ‘imprints’ means in this sentence? Write down what you think the word means, then use a dictionary (or an online dictionary) to find out if you were correct.
