In Reception, we offer a broad and balanced curriculum to prepare our children for a life in modern Britain.

Last week, our topic was 'Water Wonders'. We learnt about different creatures that live in water such as frogs and fish that we can keep as pets. We also learnt about bigger creatures that live in the sea, including wales, dolphins, sea horses, sharks and stingrays. We learnt some amazing facts, that an octopus has 3 hearts and blue blood! We read lots of books about sea creatures, wrote sentences from the story 'Rainbow Fish' and created beautiful artwork using a variety of materials.

Patterns in Maths
In maths we have been creating patterns using colours, shapes, actions and sounds.
This week we have been learning about the farm. We have been learning about animals and their young; jobs that are done on the farm and produce that comes from the farm such as eggs, milk and vegetables.
This week our topic has been 'Easter'. We read the Easter Story and looked at different videos to help us understand what happened. We have had lots of discussions about how and why we celebrate Easter! We wrote a sentence about Easter, created Easter cards for our families and made our own Easter baskets. We have had so much fun!
Today, we learnt to do chest compressions to the song 'Baby Shark'!
Last week, our topic was 'Brilliant Bugs'. Reception went on a bug hunt around the school grounds and into the science garden and found lots of insects and minibeasts. We watched lots of videos and discussed what they looked like and how they moved. We created lots of art pictures using a variety of materials and explored minibeasts during discovery time.
International Women's Day 2022
To celebrate International Women's Day this year, Reception did lots of activities about Emmeline Pankhurst. Have a look at what we got up to below!
Science Week 2022 - Ready, Steady, Grow!
We have been drawing and labelling the different parts of a plant and we even went into the Reception garden and planted our own Sunflower seeds that we will take home at Easter to look after. We looked at and talked about what a seed needs in order to help it grow (soil, water, sunlight) and have been watering our seeds every day! We can't wait to find out the winner of our competition - which child's flower has grown the tallest?
In Power Maths, we were learning all about positional and directional language. We used beebots to practise this language throughout the week by giving Barry the beebot instructions to move in different directions
Swing Into Spring!
Reception went on a Spring walk around the school grounds including the science garden. We were learning all about signs of Spring such as flowers starting to grow, warmer weather and longer days. We created beautiful spring pictures using a variety of creative materials such as paint and playdough. We read lots of spring stories that the children loved!

To celebrate Diwali, this year Reception watched some videos and discussed with our partners all the different ways that Diwali can be celebrated and what it is about. We then created our own Rangoli patterns by colouring and dot painting.

Marcus Rashford Day
To celebrate the end of Black History Month, we looked at why some people find Marcus Rashford inspirational. We did lots of different activities throughout the day but our favourites were the penalty shootout, designing and building our own football stadiums and designing our own football kits.
Head to Toe
In our topic 'Head to Toe', we learnt all about our 5 senses. The children enjoyed making musical instruments when it was 'Hearing Day'.
