Rights Respecting Schools

In spring term this year, we embarked on our journey to become a Rights Respecting school. We have already achieved Bronze Award for showing that we are 'RIGHTS COMMITED' and are continuing our journey to achieve Silver and beyond, something we hope to have done by the end of this school year.

A Rights Respecting school is a place where the community discuss, learn about and promote the rights of all children, as detailed in the United Nations Convention for the Rights of the Child (UNCRC); it is a place where the adults are the Rights Duty Bearers and the children the Rights Holders.

Introducing Rights to the Children

In September, we launched the Rights Respecting Schools Award with all of our children, through assemblies and classroom activities. Each class worked on delivering a range of activities, to help everyone to gain a better understanding of what we mean by 'RIGHTS'. Below are some photographs of our children participating in their different activities.

Class Charters

During our first week of launching Rights Respecting Schools, each team worked together with their teacher to create a Class Charter. This is an agreement about which rights the children feel are important in their classroom. Once everyone was in agreement, a charter display was created and both staff and children signed in agreement.

Have a look at some of our Class Charters below.
