(RE)

We have been learning about the muslim holiday 'Eid'.

We learnt that Eid marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic month of fasting. We had a special visit from one of our parent governors, who brought lots of beautiful head scarves, hats and other items of clothing for us to try on! Some of the older children also came to visit to share their experiences of fasting.

We had lots of fun!

Blackpool Zoo!

During our 'Wild Animals' topic, we went on a trip to Blackpool Zoo! We spent the day visiting all of the animals and learning about animal habitats! It was amazing to see lots of wild animals like zebras, giraffes and lions. Some of us have never seen these animals in real life before!

In Reception, we offer a broad and balanced curriculum to prepare our children for a life in modern Britain.

Reception – Spring 2
We have lots of lovely activities planned
for this half term.
Topics
This half term we have 5 themes that we will be
exploring. These are:
Once Upon a Time
We Love Books (World Book Day)
Fur and Feathers – Pets
Fur and Feathers – Zoo Animals
Easter
In our ‘Once Upon a Time’ theme, we will enjoy
reading a range of traditional stories/fairy tales
such as ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears’ and
‘The Three Little Pigs’. These are great stories for
the children to join in with the repetitive
language and act out with puppets and props.
Story times are so important at this age and
really help to develop your children’s language
skills.
On Thursday 7th March, it is ‘World Book Day’.
This links well with our topic ‘We Love Books’. We
will be spending the whole week celebrating our
love of reading! We will be reading some of our
favourite Julia Donaldson stories and doing some
fun activities linked to these books.

Our ‘Fur and Feathers’ topic will help children
learn about different animals. The children will be
discussing and learning about pets before
exploring animals that live in the wild or in zoos.
This will coincide with our class trip to Blackpool
Zoo!
In the final week, we will be learning about
Easter. We will explore why and how Christians
celebrate Easter.
Books:
Goldilocks and the Three Bears
The Three Little Pigs
Little Red Riding Hood
Room on the Broom
The Highway Rat
Zog
Dear Zoo
Patrick Wants a Dog
Zookeeper Zoe
The Easter Story
Child Interests
As you may know, we consider your child’s
interests when planning our weekly activities. If
your child has a specific interest or has done
something exciting recently, please inform a
member of the Reception team.
