The School Council is a group of children from each of our nine Key Stage 2 teams. All pupils in Years 3-6 have the opportunity to put themselves forward to become a school councillor and represent their team. Team elections are held and all children have the opportunity to vote at the start of the year. The child who has the highest number of votes becomes their team representative within the school council.
What do we do?
As a Rights Respecting School, we have a right to share our views with adults (CRC Article 12) and for adults to listen to what we have to say. The Councillors/Rights Ambassadors go to meetings every Monday and take part in discussions with Miss Adams, to agree which article from the UNCRC will be the focus for the week ahead.
The councillors/Ambassadors bring the views of the teammates to the meeting to ensure they are acting as the voice of the children. They also let their team know what was discussed and share feedback.
The team of Councillors/Ambassadors then share this information with the whole of Key Stage Two at the end of each Monday morning assembly. Throughout the week, they look out for someone in their team, who they feel has been a great ambassador in promoting and adhering to the chosen article.
On a weekly basis, they present the ‘Rights Ambassador of the Week’ award in our Friday Celebration assembly, sharing why they have chosen this person.
The school council has taught lessons on ‘rights’ to their classmates. They have contributed to assemblies and were interviewed as part of our Silver Accreditation, sharing all the work we do across the school around the rights of the child.
In December 2025, we were awarded the Silver Accreditation for being a Rights Respecting School. Click here to see our report!
