We had lots of fun celebrating the Queen's Jubilee!

Earth Day

As part of a whole school celebration of 'Earth Day', we learnt all about how we can look after our amazing planet. We made Earth headbands. How cool are they!?

World Book Day 2022

The children enjoyed celebrating ‘World Book Day!’ They all came to school dressed as their favourite character from a book. We spent the day reading some of our favourite stories and completing lots of fun activities to celebrate World Book Day.

The children enjoyed taking part in an ‘Author Zoom’ activity. We listened to the story ‘The Museum of Marvellous Things’ which was read to us by the real author, Kristina Stephenson! We learnt just how important it is to always use our imagination as they are often filled with magic!

The children in Team 4 also had a ‘Buddy Zoom’ call with the children from Team 12. They read us Mrs Houldsworth’s favourite story, ‘The Gruffalo’. We really enjoyed it!

Show and Tell - Toys

The half term we have been learning all about old and new toys as part of our topic ‘Toys from the Past’. The children brought in some of their favourite toys from home for a show and tell activity. They enjoyed talking about their favourite toys and showing them to their friends. It was lots of fun.

Plants

As part of our new topic ‘Pretty Plants’, we have planted sunflower seeds! We are going to observe them growing and fill in our plant diary each week. We have also written a recount for our guided writing activity.

Number Day

The children enjoyed celebrating ‘Maths Day’ at school. This year our focus was ‘Shape’. The children created some amazing artwork using different 2D shapes to create face artwork and then painted it using the water colours.

Dress to Express Day 2022

The children in Year 1 enjoyed celebrating ‘Dress To Express Yourself Day’ as part of Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week 2022. They all came to school wearing their favourite outfits or favourite colours to express themselves. They all looked amazing!

International Women's Day 2022

On 8th March 2022, we celebrated International Women’s Day across the school. In Year 1, we wrote about what we had enjoyed learning.

Science Experiment 2022

As part of our Science lesson, the children enjoyed carrying out an experiment! We performed a simple test to see which materials would best protect an egg. The materials we used were carboard, a fabric sock, bubble wrap and foil. Firstly, we made our predictions. Next, we carried out the experiment making sure it was a fair test. We wrapped each egg up carefully using the different materials and we dropped the eggs from the same height. Then, we checked the eggs to see which ones had cracked. We wrote our results down and then made a conclusion. We concluded that the cardboard was the most protective material for the egg!

Chinese New Year 2022

The children in Year 1 enjoyed learning about Chinese New Year this week! We talked about the Chinese culture and how Chinese people celebrate Chinese New Year. We also enjoyed watching videos and reading books. We even created our own Chinese lanterns! Have a look at some pictures below.

Jam Sandwiches 2022

As part of our Jigsaw PSHE lessons, we have been thinking about our dreams and goals and things that we want to achieve. We decided to set ourselves a goal – to be able to make a jam sandwich! We worked with our learning partners and created small steps, like stepping stones, to help us achieve our goal of making a jam sandwich. We enjoyed eating our jam sandwiches at the end - they were delicious! We then talked about how it felt to achieve our goal. We all felt really proud of ourselves.

Mr Potato Head 2022

As part of our topic this half term, ‘Toys from the Past,’ the children in Year 1 completed some work on the film ‘Toy Story’. The children enjoyed watching some of the film and talking about their favourite characters. For their creative challenge, the children created their very own Mr Potato Head using lots of different materials. Take a look at some of our super characters below…
