Earth Day 2022

Earth Day is held on the 22nd April every year. The theme for Earth Day in 2022 was ‘Invest in Our Planet’. In Nursery we talked about the different ways that we can help look after our beautiful planet. Here are some of the areas that we discussed:

  • Picking up litter
  • Planting trees and flowers
  • Recycling
  • Reminding a grown up to switch off the lights when they leave a room
  • Using a fabric carrier bag when you go shopping and not a plastic bag
  • Using less water

The children had great fun making Earth Day hats that they took home.

Minibeasts

The Nursery children have been exploring minibeasts during the second week of this half term. They have been looking for minibeasts in the Nursery garden and with the use of a ventilated bug viewer, the children have been able to explore these fascinating creatures further.

Here are some simple facts that the children have learnt about insects this week:

  • Insects have three body parts and six legs.
  • Spiders have two body parts and eight legs.
  • Insects and spiders hatch from eggs.
  • Caterpillars develop into butterflies.
  • Insects need air, food and water to live, just like people.

Any insects that we viewed in the bug viewers were all returned safely to their natural habitats, exactly where we found them.

International Women's Day 2022

The children in Nursery celebrated International Women's Day this year by looking at and learning all about Emmeline Pankhurst.

Chinese New Year

We have really enjoyed celebrating Chinese New Year this week! We have made lanterns, Chinese dragons and enjoyed tasting some yummy foods! What an amazing celebration!

Just Add Water

This week our topic has been ‘Just Add Water’ and we have had lots of fun! We have made play dough with water and watched it change state, we then used the play dough to role play making cakes. We have learnt all about the weather and rain, and learnt how to use our paintbrushes to make a splatter painting. We have also learnt how to use watercolour paints this week and created some beautiful art work.

Making Music

When we came back after the Christmas holidays our topic was ‘Winter Wonderland’! The children loved learning all about artic animals and where they live and the different weather conditions. We learnt about ice and how to freeze water and how to make ice melt during some science experiments which were really fun! The children played ‘snowman bowling’ to work on their gross motor skills, they made snowmen with playdough to enhance their fine motor skills and loved making winter pictures in the art area. What a fun week!

Splash of Colour

This week our topic has been ‘Splash of Colour’, we have had so much fun doing different art work and learning how to make patterns. We have explored colour mixing and learnt the difference between primary and secondary colours. We have learnt how to make repeating colour patterns and used the peg boards to demonstrate them. We have loved reading ‘Camille’s Sunflowers’ and from the story had a go at recreating Vincent Van Gogh’s famous sunflower painting. Some of the children said they would love to be artists when they grow up and by looking at some of their amazing art work, we are sure some of them will be!

Tooth Brushing

In Nursery we have been learning about the importance of looking after our teeth! We have all been given our own tooth brush and toothpaste to practise brushing our teeth and we know we must brush our teeth every morning and night time. We even learn some songs and dances about tooth brushing! Here we are showing our friends how to brush their teeth properly.

Autumn

Take a look at what we got up to on our Autumn walk. When we got back to school, we investigated all the objects that we collected.

Our Senses

We have been learning all about our senses in Nursery. Have a look at what we got up to!

Planting

Our Nursery children have been busy tidying our garden and planting some autumn bedding plants. They used lots of our new gardening equipment, donated as part of our Nature Friendly Schools Project. We all had lots of fun learning how to care for the new plants!
