Writing

Here is this week's Powerpoint. Use this alongside the lesson's below to help you with your writing this week.

Monday

Look through today's slides on the powerpoint.

This week we are going to be astronauts. We want to be able to work for NASA! At the end of the week we will be writing a letter to NASA to tell them why they should include us in their next mission into space.

Let's start today by doing some astronaut training.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S5fyUq5Xk1g

To be an astronaut you have to be very strong! Follow the video to help you get as fit as an astronaut.

Tuesday

Look through today's slides on the powerpoint.

Today we would like you to make your own astronaut passport. You will need to draw yourself as an astronaut and then write your name, age and a description of yourself. You could write your favourite planet and draw a picture of that too!

Wednesday

Look through today's slides on the powerpoint.

Today we are going to start to think about what we will include in our letter. Have a think about what you are good at that would make you a good astronaut. Discuss it with a grown up. You might be strong, brave or good at working in a team. Now write a list of everything you are good at that you would like to tell NASA about.

Thursday

Look through today's slides on the powerpoint.

Today we would like you to think about what you would like to see in space. Why would you like to go to space? Discuss it with a grown-up. Now write a list or some sentences to explain why you want to go to space and what you hope to see.

Friday

Look through today's slides on the powerpoint.

Letter Writing!

Today we want you to write a letter to NASA asking to be one of there astronauts. You need to persuade them! Tell them what you will be good at, what you are like as a person, why you want to go and what you hope to see. A grown-up can help you but try to write it independently if possible. Then your grown-up can check it and you can correct it or make it even better.

Design and Technology

Last week we designed our own spaceship. Today we would like you to make your own spaceship. Ask a grown-up for permission to use some of the things in your recycling. Choose some objects that you would like to use and think carefully about how you could use them to build your spaceship. You will need glue or tape to help you stick them together. If you can you could paint it or decorate it after it has been built. Here are some examples to help you:

Image: Transform a bottle into a rocket in 6 easy steps    Alien spaceship crafts made from paper bowls, googly eyes and plastic cups.   Use circular cream cheese box and popsicle sticks to create this alien and cardboard spaceship craft.   Recycled UFO made from old CD and plastic containers.
