Writing

This week in our writing lessons, we will be writing a speech to convince our friends to put a hated item into Room 101! Click here for some ideas: https://www.comedy.co.uk/tv/room_101_2012/videos/6468/room_101_childrens_special/

We would like you to follow this PowerPoint and complete the tasks on the slides each day. You can see the days of the PowerPoint at the top of each slide! Each day, you will have some thinking to do, a grammar game and an activity to complete. Look below for a summary of your jobs each day.

Monday: Make a poster of all of the things that you really hate. Label and write a reason against each to explain your ideas. 

Tuesday: Watch the videos https://www.comedy.co.uk/tv/room_101_2012/videos/6468/room_101_childrens_special/ and make a list of the different phrases and skills the children use to persuade the audience.

Wednesday: Follow this week's PowerPoint - today you need to read the WAGOLL and practise some show not tell sentences.

Thursday: Follow this week's PowerPoint - Practise using a range of sentence types!

Friday: Follow this week's PowerPoint - Practise using subordinate and relative clauses. 

 

Reading

In reading this week, we will be looking at ‘Oliver Twist’ by Berlie Doherty. This is the tale of an orphan boy raised in Victorian times.  It will give you a good idea of what life could be like for children in these times, linking in with our Victorian Children topic.

Tuesday: Click here to  investigate the suffixes -tion, -ssion, -sion and -cian.

Wednesday:  Click here to  explore word class. We will focus on identifying nouns, adjectives, adverbs and verbs in sentences. We then explore what prepositions are and identify these in sentences.

Thursday:  Click here to watch a film clip and use it to help generate relevant vocabulary.  

Friday:  Click here to be introduced new vocabulary, identify word pairs and synonyms and apply the vocabulary in sentences.

Monday: French- This week we have been learning to give directions in French. Click here to watch this video and practice saying the phrases, then see if you can write out the directions from your house to the local shop or to school.

Wednesday: History- Victorians:

Click here and watch the video about Dr Thomas Bernardo and how he helped the poor during the Victorian era.  Make notes as you watch and then write a brief explaining who he was and what he did.

Friday: Science- Forces

Click here to learn how we can measure the size of forces, particularly how we can measure weight. We will learn about Isaac Newton and his contribution to our knowledge of forces as well as Newtons as a unit of measurement. We will also investigate how to use a Newton meter to measure forces.
