Moston Shield Football Tournament
10/06/2026 7:30 PM
On Wednesday the 10th June Moston Lane School alongside our Friends at FC United of Manchester hosted the 4th Moston Shield Football Tournament. The Moston Shield (First held back in 2016) was set up when Mr Buckley decided to put together a football tournament involving all the schools in the local area. The tournament ran consequtivly for 3 Years (Moston Lane winning it for the first time in 2017) but hasn't been competed for since 2018. But the Tournament was brought back in 2026 as 8 schools decided to to enter with 10 teams turning up to play on the day.
Moston Lane had a tough group with Holy Trinity Reds, Charlestown, Moston Fields and Lilly Lane Blues. Moston Lane managed to come out top of the group and without conceeding a single goal.
The team then went into the semi-Finals against an E-Act Blackley side that had come runners-up in Group B. It was a game that had plenty of goals and Moston Lane found themselves in the final.
Holy Trinity Blues waited for us in the final, but Moston Lane were ready. An early 2 goal lead suggested Moston Lane were on the pathe to victory, but Holy Trinity scored late in the game. Moston Lane were able to hold out and won the game 2-1.
The victory meant Moston Lane became the first school to win the Moston Shield for the 2nd time.
The day was a fabuous occassion and lots of children were able to enjoy a fest of football. A super day for all involved, with each school playing the game in the correct spirit and being respectful.
We would like to thank all the staff who took the time to bring the children to the tournament, all the children who played, all the staff at FC United and Leon Wright an ex-Moston Lane pupil, who came down to help refferee the games. We hope you all enjoyed the afternoon as much as we did.
