Read the extract 'Counting' and discuss what you have read with a grown up. Underline any tricky vocabulary and use your SFA skills to help you to work out what they mean. Click the link and look at the picture. Write a list of emotions and feelings to describe how the boy might be feeling and then complete the 'Perfect Picture' activity. 
Once you have done that, complete one of the following activities:

  • Complete the 'Story Starter'
  • Write a diary entry from the boys perspective about the morning leading him to this moment 
  • Write a character description about the boy

History 

In our lessons, we learnt lots about life in the early Islamic civilisation of Baghdad. Now it is your turn to find some facts about school and life at home during this time. Use Purple Mash to find the information and present it to us by saving your work for us to see.

Log onto Purple mash and complete the complete the 'Schools' and 'Homes' activities that you have been set as 2do tasks.

 

Always remember that it is extremely important to stay safe online! Always tell an adult if you see anything online that worries or upsets you and never share your personal information. Remember to be kind and take a break from screen time by getting outside and having fun!

Good morning everyone! 

We have been thinking over the last few days about how we can celebrate the hard work you are all doing at home and we have decided to bring back 'Star of the Day'- but this time for the whole year group! We'll be looking at the work you have completed online and the work that you have emailed us as well to decide who our Year 5 stars are.

Chikae, you were the first one in the year group to complete both the reading and SPaG tasks on Education City on Tuesday- well done superstar!

Reading

 Follow this link to the World Book Day website. You will find a wide range of extracts from lots of different books. Explore the site for an extract you think you might enjoy and read it.

Once you have read the extract, complete one of the following activities:

  • Create a poster to summarise what you have read
  • Write six comprehension questions based on the extract, that you could give to a friend
  • Write the next chapter to the book

Imagine you are the boy in the picture. You have received a letter from your neighbours explaining that they don't feel safe living so close to the dragon. Write a formal letter in response, explaining why you should keep the dragon.

 Train like a superhero and complete the Avengers workout to wake you up and get your heart pumping!

 

Reading

Read the extract from 'The Contraption'. Make a note of any unfamiliar vocabulary and discuss it with a grown up. When you have understood the story, answer the inference focus  and VIPERS comprehension questions at the bottom of the story. To check your answers, click here.

For story time, you could listen to David Walliams read out his book of the day!

 

Maths

Test your times tables on Daily 10 and play hit the button when you are happy with your score! Remember, we should know all of our times tables up to 12x by now!

 Watch the video for 'A Cloudy Lesson'

1) List similes, metaphors and figurative language that you could use to describe the clouds (remember - you want to make the clouds seem alive!) Think about how they move, what they are thinking and what they can see from high up in the sky.

2) Write a poem about your day as a cloud. Look at the example verse and continue the poem in the same style.

I drift above a busy world,

And watch the frantic lights of ant sized cars,

Carve darkness into jagged streets.
