Wednesday 20th May 2020

Good morning! We hope you are well and that you are embracing our mental health theme this week by carrying out your daily acts of kindness! Even if you just smile and say hello to someone you walk past whilst on your daily walk - it might make their day!

Miss Mottram's message of kindness

Hello everyone!

What a strange time we are living in! I am sure that a lot of you, like me, are missing school, seeing your family and your friends. However, it's so important that we remember this won't last forever and hopefully we'll all be back together soon! In the meantime, I think my mum's dog is fed up of hearing my voice on Facetime everyday!

Now more than ever, we need to be kind to one another. If someone is having a bad day and they're feeling a bit sad or stressed, you can be that person's rainbow by giving them a smile, asking them how they are and by just being a good friend! Every single one of you is a rainbow - I think you are all amazing and I know the rest of the Y5 team would agree with me in saying you brighten our days and constantly make us laugh!

I cannot wait to see your smiling faces again soon,

Miss Mottram x

Music and singing can be great for your mental health. Do you have a song that makes you happy?

Miss Mottram loves a song she can sing and dance to - Unwritten and I Feel Love being two examples - absolute bangers I'm sure you would agree!!

With this in mind, we'd like you to complete a music lesson today based on singing in harmony. You might not think you're the best singer but if it makes you happy singing to your favourite songs behind closed doors, then just do it?!

Click this link to complete the lesson. Once you've warmed up your vocal chords, why not head over to Youtube and learn the lyrics to your favourite songs?

Have a great day everyone!

Topic

In topic, we are going to continue with our learning around Mental Health Awareness Week.

Today's lesson focuses around the kind act of volunteering. Thousands of people have responded to the current crisis by volunteering. The kindness they have shown has been very powerful. From delivering food to neighbours, to sewing workwear for nurses and doctors, people have shown a great willingness to help.

Click here to view a poster from World War 2 which appealed for young people to volunteer to help in their local community! Look at the poster and think about these key questions:

  • How might volunteering during a crisis make people feel?
  • How is volunteering a kind act?

We would like you to create your own poster about someone who has helped you during a tricky time!

Think about:

  • What did they do?
  • Why are they inspiring to you?
  • What acts of kindness can you do in your day to day to inspire others?

Send your finished posters to the Y5 email address!

Have a fantastic day everyone!

Topic

This week is 'Mental Health Awareness Week' and this year's theme is 'Kindness'.

With this in mind, we would like you to send some messages of kindness. Think about a friend, family member, neighbour or a teacher that is special to you and write them a message of kindness. You might write them a card, send them a message or an email. If you are not sure how to send your message of kindness to a friend within our year group, you are welcome to email them to us and we can make sure they receive it!

We would also like you to have a go at a Kindness Calendar this week. Either use this template or create your own at home to record your daily acts of kindness. Click this link for some ideas of how to be kind!

At the end of the week, we would like you to send us your Kindness Calendars - there may be a prize for the person with the most creative daily acts of kindness!

We can't wait to see what you get up to!

Have a great day everyone!
