VE Day

Good morning everyone! Today is VE Day, which stands for victory in Europe and marks 75 years since the end of World War 2 in Europe.

Throughout the day, people across the country will be partaking in a wide range of VE Day themed activities.

You may already have your own plans for the day but if you're not sure what to do and would like some ideas, we've come up with some suggestions for you!

Design your own bunting to display in your windows or click on this link  for a template and follow the instructions.

Take part in the Virtual VE Day festival. For the full schedule click the link - events include: Life on the Home Front, Voices from the Fighting Forces and a Victory Dance!

Tune into the BBC at 2.45pm to watch Winston Churchill's VE Day speech - Churchill was the country's prime minister in 1945.

The weather forecast is set to be great so why not have a picnic in your garden? Click on the link for some VE Day recipes ranging from Afternoon Tea sandwiches to bunting biscuits and scones.

The Royal British legion website has some colouring posters to download and, if you're feeling adventurous, it even has instructions for the lindy hop dance and some singalong lyrics!

If you've been using the last few weeks as an opportunity to try out a few different hairstyles, then follow this tutorial to have a go at styling your hair into the classic 'victory rolls'.

Maybe hair styling isn't your thing and you've been developing your lego skills? Have a go at this lego challenge:

  • make a poppy
  • make a medal
  • make a Union Jack flag
  • set up a VE Day street party
  • make an air display

Hopefully, these ideas have given you some inspiration! Have a great day celebrating - we'd love to see pictures of some of the exciting activities you get up to today!
