Hello, my name is Mrs Leigh and I am the subject co-ordinator and specialist music teacher at Moston Lane. Music is a highly valued area of the curriculum and I am responsible for the delivery of weekly music lessons to Years 3, 4 & 5. I have also delivered lessons to Year 1 during the spring term and Year 2 will be receiving some specialist music lessons in the summer term. Year 6 children receive music tuition during the summer term after completing their SATS tests. Music is delivered by class teachers in EYFS.

Within music lessons, children have the opportunity to develop their singing skills and to experience playing a variety of untuned and tuned percussion instruments. Year 4 children are taught to play the recorder as a whole class instrumental project, and Year 5 children participate in a whole class djembe drumming project.

We also have visiting instrumental teachers from the Music Service who teach violin/viola and steel band to Years 4 – 6. These groups have the opportunity to perform in concerts at Christmas and in the summer term. We have recently formed an extremely enthusiastic choir who gave their latest successful performance at Easter.

The children at Moston Lane really enjoy music and we are very proud of their achievements both in and out of the classroom.

Year 6 'Garage Band' Workshop

In Year 6, we have been very fortunate to have an electronic music composer/producer in called Caro who has been in delivering iPad music workshops for the last 5 weeks! She has taught us all about electronic music; the key musical terms and phrases; how to use the “Garage Band” app on the iPads; and has helped us create a theme tune to our very own TV show!
