Our School Aims

At Moston Lane Primary School, we ensure that all children are healthy, stay safe and make a positive contribution. We encourage each other to aim to be ‘the best that they can be.’ Our school aims encourage and enable pupils to:

Recognise their own worth
Work well with others
Develop positive relationships and respect for others
Understand our common humanity diversity and differences
Know and understand what constitutes a healthy lifestyle
Develop safety awareness
Be a positive and active member of a democratic society
Develop self-confidence and self-esteem

Teaching and Learning

PSHE is taught in a variety of ways, often through other areas of our school curriculum, such as R.E. (Religious Education), school assemblies, and Science. PSHE is deeply embedded within the attitudes towards learning and expectations of behaviour throughout the school. PSHE is also developed through other activities and whole-school events, including special days in school and school trips. We have team of Head Girl/Boy and their Deputies and a team of Rights Ambassadors who are elected by their peers from our KS2 classes. The PSHE curriculum is based on three core themes:

  1. Health and Well-being
  2. Relationships
  3. Living in the Wider World

These themes identify the key concepts and skills that underpin PSHE Education and help us to fulfill our responsibility to support pupils’ spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development and prepare them for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of life. Please follow the link below to look at the expectations and specific 'Programmes of Study' for your child.

Be The Best You Can Be!

At Moston Lane, we are also engaged in a programme called ‘Be The Best You Can Be!’ This programme encourages all pupils to follow their own unique journey to achieve their full intellectual, physical, social and spiritual potential as responsible individuals, citizen and members of their community, with the aim to improve performance, learning and enjoyment.

SUMO for Schools

'SUMO4SCHOOLS' is a behaviour strategy that helps pupils empower themselves, to develop skills such as dealing with change, building better relationships, developing a resilient attitude to life, improving motivation and coping with stress.

The six themes are taught during circle time and staff use the language of SUMO4SCHOOLS when speaking to pupils. We choose one pupil from each key stage to receive the SUMO Certificate at Celebration Assembly each week for demonstrating the SUMO skills.

We will be hosting parent SUMO workshops in the near future.
